Batuhan Selected for EVS Program!

Batuhan has been selected for the Alliance for Vision Research's 12th Annual Emerging Vision Scientist Program, taking place September 15-16, 2026, in Washington, D.C. This program brings early-career vision researchers to Capitol Hill to present their work to policymakers and advocate for continued federal investment in vision research. Batuhan will present research on how individuals with severe visual impairment use their remaining vision and other senses to navigate challenging and safety-critical tasks of daily life. The work aims to inform evidence-based rehabilitation and assistive technology that help people with ultra-low vision travel more safely and independently. Congratulations Batuhan!
SUNY State of the University Address

Arathy was part of the Campus Showcase at the State of the University address at The Egg in Albany this year! We were able to demo our VR program to Chancellor King!
VSP Eyes of Hope Event

"Volunteering at the VSP Eyes of Hope vision screening event, organized in partnership with 100 Black Men of America at Eagle Academy for Young Men, was a truly rewarding experience and my first opportunity to participate in a community vision screening program in the United States. Having previously worked as a paediatric optometrist in India, I have always enjoyed working with children, and it was wonderful to continue serving this population in a new setting. Working alongside the dedicated volunteers and clinicians to provide comprehensive eye care to students was both inspiring and fulfilling, and I look forward to participating in more community outreach initiatives in the future." - Navaneetha

Batuhan and Dinesh were at the VSS conference in St. Pete Beach, Florida this year. We also got our abstracts accepted for the inaugural Applied Vision Sciences meeting right after VSS! Congrats to Batuhan for the NIH Early Career Research Scientist Travel Grant!

We were at ARVO 2026 held in Denver, Colorado. We had 5 accepted posters from the lab this year. Dinesh won the Member-in-Training Outstanding Poster Award! Congratulations Dinesh!

Vision 2025 Florence

Arathy was invited to present at Vision2025, the 15th International Low Vision Conference organized by the International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation (ISLRR) held in Florence, Italy. She talked about "Virtual Reality: A novel way to measure mobility" which was part of a session titled " Outcome measures in vision restoration clinical trials". The next ISLRR conference, Vision2027, will be held in Melbourne, Australia in 2027.

We were at ARVO 2025 held in Salt Lake City, Utah. This was the first time for Navya and Grace. It was great to present our work at the largest annual vision science and ophthalmology conference with over 11000 attendees from all over the world!
We are going places...

Portability is an important part of our program. With our VR system, we can take the test anywhere without compromising on the rigor. The settings and luminance remain exactly the same whether we are in the lab or in a parking lot! This is a huge advantage when we need to work with individuals who have severe visual impairment and cannot travel independently.

We are very excited to start our study at MIVI and even better, ours marked the 100th study for the Clinical Vision Research Center at SUNY!
