MIVI Lab
Exploring New Ideas
In the past, individuals with low vision had limited options for enhancing their visual potential. But the current advances in technology (e.g. Smart Glasses, Smart Phone Apps and Wearable sensors) opens up endless possibilities for those who have vision and/or hearing loss.
At Multisensory Integration in Visual Impairment (MIVI) laboratory, a highly collaborative research lab located in the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City, we are interested in studying how people with visual impairment interact with their environment and perform daily activities. We study how different sensory inputs (visual, auditory and tactile) change their performance when provided individually or in combination.
We hope that our research will provide guidelines for the development of better technology and treatment outcomes for individuals with different visual abilities that are based on scientific evidence. In short, there is no “one size fits all” and we are developing precise methods for calibrating technology for each individual.
